Your Unique Voice

In the course of my vocal training, I make it a point to share with my participants and trainees that it is important that we do not strive to sound like someone else because everyone has a unique voice that God has given to us and all we need to do is to work on improving it.

I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever

I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
Over the mountains and the sea
Your river runs with love for Me
And I will open up my heart
And let the healer set me free
I’m happy to be in the truth
And I will daily lift my hands
For I will always sing
Of when your love came down

Chorus:
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever

Over the mountains and the sea
Your river runs with love for me
And I will open up my heart
And let the healer set me free
I’m happy to be in the truth
And I will daily lift my hands
For I will always sing
Of when your love came down

I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever

I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever

Oh, I feel like dancing
This foolishness, I know
But when the world has seen the light
They will dance with joy
Like we’re dancing now

I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever

Lord, You are the reason why we sing. The human mind can never fully comprehend the depth; the height and the width of your boundless love, and only those who have completely abandon themselves to Your lordship can boldly enter into Your holy presence to worship and adore You.

Enjoy The Paintings

Here are some paintings displayed at the Singapore ArtsStreet 2008 at North East in Hougang. Enjoy!

Thinking Out Of The Box

Last Saturday, I happened to run into Singapore ArtsStreet 2008 at North East in Hougang. Some people were busily painting away. I always marvel at people who can draw and paint because I cannot draw for the life of me.

At one corner of the event, I saw some people pasting stickers on outlined pictures. It is thinking out of the box because conventionally, we use crayons, poster colour, water colour or paint. Creativity brings a breath of fresh air and it is unlimited.

BFF

Recently, one of my young vocal trainee was preparing a song for an audition. In the song, the word ‘BFF’ caught my attention. I found out from her that it meant ‘Best Friends Forever’. A few years ago, a friend sent me an SMS with the abbreviation ‘btw’, I took a long time to figure that one out. It means ‘by the way’.

Online and SMS shorthand is so widely used today. Look at some interesting shorthand here:

c u : see you

ttul: talk to you later

btwn: between

gb: goodbye

gn: goodnight

t’row: tomorrow

2day: today

y’day: yesterday

2gether: together

con’t: continue

bbs: be back soon

This online and SMS shorthand continue to evolve and develop and shape our way of communication. This hype is certainly here to stay for some time.

Motion Sickness

Going down memory lane is interesting. When I was very young, my mother would bring me to visit my late maternal grandparents at the current Eunos estate. That area was a kampong then. Travelling in a non-aircon bus from Commonwealth area to Eunos took such a long time as the road systems then were not as efficient. I had terrible motion sickness, so my mother had plastic bags all ready just in case I would throw up. Every trip we made to see my grandparents were filled with anxiety. However, what I appreciated most is that my mother did not allow my motion sickness to deter us from making the arduous journey.

Now let me bring you back to the year 2000, as Monte and I were in Asia Pacific Theological Seminary, we took medical missions trips to other parts of Baguio, Philippines. We traveled by jeepney. In a jeepney, the people would sit facing each other and only the driver and the front sitting passenger faced the front directly. Monte made special request for me to take the front seat due to my problem with motion sickness for fear that I might not make the journey. I appreciated his thoughtfulness.

Today, I can read on an mrt and at times on a bus but reading in a moving car is out of the question. I have come a long way, my motion sickness condition has improved remarkably.

Chip Of The Old Block

People who have seen my mother and me will always comment that I take after my mother. Apart from looking alike, We also have similar taste buds. We crave for wanton noodle, chicken rice, satay, durians and rojak. Monte (my husband) commented that our mannerisms are very similar too. Isn't this interesting? Well, to put everything into a nutshell, I am the chip of the old block and I am happy.

Doubly Blessed

My late maternal grandmother was one of the kindest person I had known. I had never once heard her raised her voice. I do not remember her flaring up even in trying times. Occasionally, I would stay over at grandparents place as my mother had some important things to tend to. I remember grandmother would carry me and whisper comforting words into my ears. The reassurance, love and care meant a great deal to me.

Now, I will say something about my mother. My mother is a kind woman. I grew up in Commonwealth Crescent for a large part of my life. There were many Hainanese families there like ours. That neighbourhood was one of the friendliest neighbourhood I had ever known. There was such a community spirit among the people. On some occasions, my neighbours had commented to me that I had such a kind mother. Needless to mention, these neighbours had been blessed by my mother’s kindness. Growing up, I remember on many occasions, my mother would send me off with food or gifts for my neighbours. She always gave the best to others. Whenever I think about my late grandmother and mother, I can only thank God for I am doubly blessed.

Unstoppable

In mid June 2008, I caught a programme on television which featured lives of Singaporeans who were abroad. In that episode, it was on a Singaporean woman in Mongolia. She was a missionary there for many years now. She was filmed ministering, visiting people, at work, at play and just about everything she did from day to day. One thing that stood out in her life was the joy and exuberance she exhibited. Her love for the Mongolians was infectious. Her labour of love had certainly paid off. She would not be coming back to Singapore right away, she was so happy to remain in ministry there.

At one point, the programme host commented that this missionary thought like the Mongolians. Her whole life was immersed in the Mongolian culture. No one would know that she was a foreigner because she lived just like a Mongolian. She was unstoppable for the love of God compelled her to persevere on for the glory of the Lord.

A Father's Love

One day in early June 2008, I tuned into a local Chinese radio programme and they were featuring stories of cancer stricken children. A couple had four children and two out of their four children had cancer. When their first child was diagnosed with cancer, the father shaved his head. The young son asked his father why he did that. With love, the father told his son that he was going into battle with him. The battle was none other than the battle to overcome the sickness. This great act of love touched his son deeply.

Simply Irresistible

Mickey is so well loved by everyone in the family. He is an extremely smart dog. Yesterday, I went to visit my parents. As usual, Mickey was overjoyed to see me. As I sat on the floor near him, I noticed that from time to time his eyes was directed on his leash which was on a nearby shelf. All he wanted to do was to signal to me:” Please, please, please, please, please bring me for a walk!” He is simply irresistible.

The Great Paradox

God is so strong and mighty yet He is so soft and humble in heart and spirit. He possesses all the resources in the universe and yet He gives us the wonderful privilege to partner with Him in the work He is doing. He reigns on high and yet He came down to earth to touch the down-and-out. He is righteous and just and yet He will never turn His face away from one who is truly repentant. How could a God so great and awesome reveal His heart to mankind? This is one of the greatest paradox in life.
