Going Beyond The Call Of Duty

This Teacher’s day was very meaningful. The media paid a fair bit of attention to this special group of people who are instrumental in shaping lives. One Chinese radio station had a special programme where people would call in to the station to look for their long lost teachers. A caller, Mdm Yan, succeeded in contacting the former school principal, Zhang Juan of Pei Chai Primary School. She was overjoyed with tears when she spoke with Principal Zhang in an arranged meeting which ensued.

The school shut down in 1983. Former school students spoke well of Principal Zhang. Many have even visited her over the years to extend their thanks and gratitude.

In the year 1948, Principal Zhang first started off as a teacher and she was later promoted as the school principal in 1953. Students shared on how she had paid for some poor students who could not afford their school fees. Farmers who had no money to settle their children’s school fees would bring chickens and vegetables to Principal Zhang.

As the school was very run down, the roof leaked during rainy days. Principal Zhang and her husband, though not very well off, dug deep into their own pockets to mend the leaking roof. She went beyond the call of duty. She demonstrated the excellent spirit of giving.

Siesta

Yesterday afternoon, I popped by my parent's place. After walking Mickey, he went home and ate a big lunch. He ate like there was no tomorrow. Not long after his lunch, he looked a little lethargic. The photos in this post were of Mickey resting under the coffee table. Recently, he was shaven down and he looked so adorable.

Captivated By A Cat

A few nights ago, Monte (my husband) and I had dinner at Fernvale Point. I saw this cat and I took its photo. It was amazing that it started posing for me. The cat's eyes were gently peering into my hand phone camera. It really captivated me.

Go Deeper

Lord, we are not satisfied with just getting our feet wet. We’re not contented with merely splashing around in Your river. We want to be completely immersed in the river of Your spirit. We want to swim in your mighty river. For Your river will lead us where You desire us to go. As we entrust our lives to You, You turn our lives around for Your glory. You show us the way that leads us to Your perfect will and plan for our lives.

Kopi C Siew Dai

From time to time when Monte (husband) orders his Kopi C Siew Dai (coffee with evaporated milk with less sugar) which costs about 90 cents to a dollar, the staff at the coffee shop will usually brighten up with a smile. He must be thinking to himself how would a westerner know how to make his order in Hokkien, a dialect in Singapore. We always enjoy having a nice cup of tea or coffee while relaxing at a coffee shop.

Recently, a man was featured on our prime time news. His income level was relatively low and so it was tough to make ends meet in light of rising prices. He shared how he had stopped having his cup of tea during his tea break. I could tell what was foremost on his mind was how he could provide for his family. He sacrificed for his loved ones. Imagine, just a cup of coffee which many can easily afford has become a ‘luxury’ to this man.

Lights And Lanterns

Last evening, Monte (my husband) and I took a walk along Clarke Quay. Due to the soon coming Mid Autumn Festival, lights and lanterns lit up the evening sky. It was absolutely beautiful.

Full Bloom

When our life brings glory to the name of God, we are likened to full bloom flowers. People who come in touch with us can see the beauty and glory of Jesus, they can smell the sweet fragrance of Christ. They will say that there is something about these Christians, they are just different. The fruit of the Spirit draws people to Christ. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Christians who are completely led by the Spirit of God radiate with God’s glory and point people to the true light.
